BEAMAN — The Beaman Community Memorial Library will welcome Iowa author and historian Linda McCann at 7 p.m. on July 28, offering residents an opportunity to hear firsthand about her extensive work preserving the state’s past.

McCann, a lifelong Iowan, has built a career dedicated to documenting the stories that shaped the state’s history. Her interest in research began with a personal search into her own genealogy, where she discovered she was descended from the founder of Shell Rock. That revelation sparked a deep passion for historical research and community preservation, ultimately guiding much of her work.

McCann has authored at least 14 books, many published through The Iowan Books, blending meticulous historical research with personal narratives that bring Iowa’s heritage to life. Her subjects range from the Civilian Conservation Corps’ impact on Iowa to the development of small towns across the region. Through each project, she aims to connect younger generations with the people, places and events that defined their communities.

Her commitment to local history extends beyond writing. McCann co-founded the Shell Rock Historical Society and now serves as its president, leading community projects and educational efforts focused on preserving and sharing the area’s past. She remains actively involved in outreach, encouraging residents to explore family histories and understand the broader story of Iowa.
