ALTOONA -- Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is conducting 12 in-person farmland lease meetings in Central Iowa or five farmland lease meetings in NW Iowa in early August. Meeting sites include Adel, Altoona, Ames, Boone, Grinnell, Grundy Center, Indianola, Knoxville, Newton, Marshalltown, Oskaloosa and Toledo or Cherokee, Ida Grove, Rockwell City, Sac City and Storm Lake.
The discussion will focus on various methods to determine a fair 2027 cash rental rate and the importance of good landlord/tenant communications. According to the May 2024 Annual Cash Rental Rates for Iowa Survey, File C2--10, the cash rental rates for Iowa farmland, rates remained the same as the 2026 statewide average at $270 per acre.
The Marshalltown in-person meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 5. This meeting will be at The Marshall County Extension office, 2608 S. Second St, in Marshalltown. Patrick Hatting, farm business management specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, will facilitate the two-hour meeting. Participants of the in-person meetings will receive a 100-page Farmland Leasing Arrangements booklet and meeting handouts designed to assist landowners, tenants and other agri-business professionals with issues related to farmland ownership, management and leasing arrangements.
Pre-registration is required at least two days before the in-person meeting. Contact the ISU Marshall County Extension at 641-752-1551 to pre-register on or before 4 p.m. on Aug. 4. The $25 per individual fee with one book is payable at the door. Additional books, if available, can be purchased for $10 a book.
