Iowa State Fair butter cow artist at Marshalltown Public Library
Join Sarah Pratt, official butter sculptor for the Iowa State Fair, at the Marshalltown Public Library at 5:30 p.m. on July 23 for a fun and interactive workshop celebrating Iowa’s beloved butter art tradition.
The session begins with a brief history of butter sculpting, the butter cow’s significance in the Iowa State Fair and Pratt’s journey from apprentice to artist. Then, participants will create their own butter sculptures — transforming a simple stick of butter into buildings, people or anything that represents community. Together, the group will build a “Butter” Community.
This program is free and open to the public. No registration is necessary. The butter-sculpting portion of the program will be first come, first served. Children under the age of 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
