Mother’s Milk Bank now available at Guiding Star Marshalltown

“We are thrilled to announce that we are now an official collection depot for the Mother’s Milk Bank through the University of Iowa,” announced Lindi Trowbridge, executive director of Guiding Star Marshalltown.

As a milk depot, Guiding Star serves as a convenient drop-off and temporary storage location for mothers enrolled in the program to donate breast milk until it is picked up by the Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa and distributed through their program. The Marshalltown location is the 52nd registered depot in Iowa.

“This means that if you are already a milk donor through the Mother’s Milk Bank, you can now skip the drive to Ames or Des Moines and bring your donations directly to our center at 2501 S. Center St. Suite M, Marshalltown, IA. If you are interested in becoming a donor, you must first register with the milk bank. If you are in need of donor milk, you will also need to register through the milk bank,” said Trowbridge.

For any questions about donating or receiving donor milk, visit the Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa website at www.uichildrens.org/mothers-milk-bank.

“We are honored to be part of this program and to further our mission of serving mothers and babies throughout Central Iowa. Many thanks to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital for this program,” said Trowbridge. “This is one of many programs offered by Guiding Star Marshalltown. Be watching for our announcements on all the media sites, as well as Facebook and the Chamber’s Event Page.”
