Virtual leadership workshops offered in August

Local leaders and public-serving professionals can build practical skills this August through three virtual workshops focused on effective meetings, artificial intelligence and demographic data.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Community and Economic Development will offer Leading Effective Meetings on Aug. 13, AI Basics for Community Leaders on Aug. 20 and Demographics in Your Community on Aug. 27.

The workshops are designed for professionals whose work involves making decisions, serving communities and bringing people together across local government, nonprofits, schools and civic organizations.

Leading Effective Meetings will be offered from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 13. The interactive session is designed for local leaders and professionals in public-serving roles who regularly lead or participate in meetings and want to make those gatherings more purposeful and productive.

AI Basics for Community Leaders will be offered from 9 a.m to noon on Aug. 20. Designed for local leaders and public-serving professionals who are beginning to explore artificial intelligence, the interactive session will introduce practical ways AI can support day-to-day work and decision-making. Participants will also consider how to use the technology responsibly while maintaining the trust of the people and communities they serve.

Demographics in Your Community will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Aug. 27. The workshop is intended for professionals working in local government, libraries, nonprofits, school boards and civic organizations who want to better understand the communities they serve through demographic data. Participants will learn how to read, interpret and apply data to support decisions that are more responsive to local conditions.
