The Marshalltown Garden Club would like to recognize another local property for attractive curb appeal. The August choice is 2103 S. Sixth St., owned by Connie Etter, that is enjoyed by many as they drive on or walk by the busy street. She and her husband Brad moved here in 2002 and have personalized and maintained the pond/waterfall feature from the former owners. Sadly, Brad passed away two years ago, and Connie has added some metal wind decor and stepping stones in his memory. A smaller 2nd pond was filled in years ago, and a variety of perennial plants added to provide color thru the seasons. Blue tones accent the water in the waterfall, and solar lights illuminate the area at night next to the brick edging she installed. She made stepping stones in baseball, soccer, football, basketball and heart shapes and added to the “log”-shaped stepping stones repurposed from another space. Under the large shade tree, the two stone benches are a welcome place to rest and listen to the waterfall and birds.
Colorful pots filled with petunias and geraniums accent the front of the garages and the house. Variegated hosta, daylilies, peonies, Siberian iris, pinks, spiderwort, turtlehead, sedum and hydrangea are some of the plants that provide seasonal color.
