AMES -- The Workspace at the Iowa State Memorial Union has released a new schedule of art classes and crafts for fall. The hours are from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday through the end of November. The following are events through mid-September. Everyone is welcome at The Workspace.
• Ecosystem Terrarium Drop-In Craft
Layer natural materials, choose moss and plants, and build a mini ecosystem inside a lidded jar. All ages welcome with an accompanying adult. Drop in Aug. 24 through Sept. 12.
• Paint Your Own Pottery: Spice Up Your Space Week
All ages welcome with an accompanying adult. Drop in Aug. 31-Sept. 5. Price varies depending on what is chosen.
• Wheel Pottery Class with Bree Engelhardt
Learn the building blocks of centering clay and pulling cylinders, then use these skills to create bowls, mugs and other forms. Open to ages 18+ Tuesdays beginning Sept. 1, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for 6 weeks. Register at midwestix.com
• Intermediate Pottery Class: Tips and Tricks with Valerie Williams
Explore ways to work more efficiently on the wheel. Open to ages 18+ Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 2 for two weeks. Register at midwestix.com
• Fused Glass Jewelry Pop Up with Rhonda Scott
Make a pendant or ring by layering pieces of colored glass. Open to ages 18+ Sept. 3 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. – register for a 20-minute timeslot to hold a space on midwestix.com.
• Paint Your Own Pottery: Dinosaur Week -- All ages welcome with an accompanying adult. Drop in Sept. 7-12. Prices varie.
• Woodshop Orientation with John Burright
Learn the fundamentals of woodworking equipment and which tool to choose for the job at hand. Open to ages 18+. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 10. Register at midwestix.com

• Argentine Tango Lessons with Valerie Williams
This multi-level Milonga (dance party) is an opportunity to learn, enjoy the expressive music and meet new people. Beginners: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Advanced: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays Aug. 23 through Dec. 13 (except holidays and break weekends) Lessons meet in Room 3512, and drop-ins are welcome. Open to ages 18+.
