Free guided evening stroll through the prairie

PRAIRIE CITY -- Enjoy a guided summer evening stroll along the 2-mile Tallgrass Trail loop, offering scenic prairie vistas. This event is sponsored by the refuge in partnership with the Iowa Prairie Network. It is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Aug. 22 at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, 9981 Pacific St., Prairie City. Expect to see colorful wildflowers, towering grasses and prairie wildlife.

Meet at the front entrance to the Visitor Center. The asphalt path features gentle slopes and little shade; be aware that ticks may be present. Bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent, a snack and wear sturdy closed footwear, and suitable attire.
