The annual Jansen Jamboree was held Aug. 22 at the Haverhill Community Center with 60 descendents of Delbert and Sophia Jansen, now continued with the family of the Donald and Hazel Jansen. As the years have grown with several great grandchildren the younger generation has organized the event.
Many thanks to David and Laura Leavy, of Denver, Colo., who got the ball rolling. Justin and Mindy Karl, of Des Moines, were in charge of the corn cob/pulled pork meal and many salads and special scotcheroos made by Emily Melliere, of Charles City. Alice Jansen Nicholson being the oldest present at 91 and Sophia Janes, 2 was the youngest, daughter of Erin and Morgan Janes, of Ankeny, the granddaughter of John and Jan Jansen, of Waukee.
Marilyn Jansen Leavy traveled the farthest from Scottsdale, AZ, as Mike and Megan Bouck, with daughter Emma came from Chicago; Tony and Sandy Miller from Burlington and Tim Clark, of Zearing, along with others from Altoona, Le Grand, West Liberty and surrounding towns.
