Next meeting of The Write Club to be held at library Aug. 15

Since June 2025, The Write Club, a group for established and aspiring writers, teens through adult, has met monthly for a mix of discussion, sharing writing samples, camaraderie and a lecture on a particular writing topic.

Made possible through funding from the Artist Innovation Grant awarded by the Arts & Culture Alliance, the group is led and organized by journalist/author Sara Jordan-Heintz. Free and open to the public, it will meet next from 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 15 at the Marshalltown Public Library, in the Brucklacher Conference Room.

The topic for this month’s meeting is Editing 101: what needs to go, when to be ruthless and when it’s time to bring in a professional editor. We will talk about the revision process, writing for clarity and getting rid of redundancy to improve your work. The adage is true: much of writing is re-writing.

Previous sessions have focused on: motivation/overcoming writer’s block, how to get published, dealing with rejection, finding purpose in your writing, and writing techniques.

Future dates are as follows: September 12, October 17 and November 14, all in the Brucklacher Conference Room. We will then move to monthly Zoom meetings during the winter months.
