Karen Mussig, school counselor and mother of six, will present a parenting class based on the book, "Parenting with Love and Logic." The class is based on the love and logic parenting theory, which is a gentle parenting strategy that emphasizes empathy, acceptance and natural consequences. The class is geared for parents of toddlers through adolescent age and will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 12 at Guiding Star Marshalltown, 2501 S. Center St. - Suite M.
According to Mussig, "If you're feeling the frustration of parenting and would like to learn how, for example, to set limits without using anger or threats, but instead by using logical consequences, join us for an hour. You'll also learn tips on how to set expectations that can help your child."
Free, reserved child care is provided during the session. Those needing child care must register no later than Aug. 5 at guidingstarmarshalltown.org, click on Events, go to Parenting With Love and Logic, go to Read More, then to Register to complete. People may also register by calling 641-351-4041 during regular business hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. no later than Aug.10 for those not needing child care.
