This December, Arts + Culture is bringing together works in fiber and clay to explore the relationship between tradition, material and contemporary creativity -- and Arts + Culture is looking for local fiber artists and makers to be part of it.
Fiber and clay are among some of the oldest creative materials. For generations, artists and makers have woven, stitched, shaped and transformed them into objects that are functional, expressive and deeply connected to culture and tradition.
Today, artists continue to push those traditions forward. Through experimentation, unexpected materials, new techniques and bold ideas, contemporary artists are expanding what these familiar materials can become -- blurring the boundaries between craft and contemporary art.
Through this exhibition, Arts + Culture Alliance wants to celebrate that evolution while highlighting the artists and makers continuing to create, experiment and reimagine these traditions right here in the community.
All artists in fiber work of all kinds, including weaving, embroidery, quilting, crochet, textile art, sculptural fiber, mixed media, wearable work and beyond are wanted.
The work can be traditional, contemporary, functional, sculptural, experimental -- or somewhere in between.
To submit, artists and makers must:
• Be 18 years of age or older
• Reside in Marshall County
• Submit examples of fiber work by Oct. 1
• Email submissions to kelbryn@artsandculturealliance.org
Submitting is an opportunity to connect with Arts + Culture and become part of its growing artist database. The goal is to continue building relationships with the artists and makers in this community.
The creative approach to these historic materials -- and the ways contemporary artists continue to experiment, innovate and build upon traditional processes -- inspired us to think differently about how fiber and clay could come together here in Marshall County.
The Fiber + Fire exhibition builds on that inspiration through a local lens, bringing together the work of artists in the community and celebrating the imagination, skill and experimentation happening right here at home.
