Marshalltown Parks and Recreation is excited to introduce Rooted: A Home & Garden Series, a new collection of classes designed to bring community members together to learn, create and get inspired. The series will feature a mix of hands-on activities and educational opportunities focused on gifts, gardening, trees and landscaping.
The series kicks off on Nov. 19 with Gifts from Nature & Home @ Grounded, where participants can make homemade gifts for the holiday season, including simmer pots, homemade vanilla and gift tags. Seasonal drinks from Grounded are included, and the class will be limited to 20 participants.
On Feb. 27, community members are invited to attend The Wonderful World of Trees at the Veteran's Memorial Coliseum. This free class will feature representatives from Trees Forever, including Dr. Gary Fulton, along with arborist Kristin Titus, who will share information about selecting the best trees for the yard, caring for trees and the many benefits they provide.
The series concludes on April 3 with Beautiful by Design: Landscaping Ideas at the Veteran's Memorial Coliseum. Led by horticulturists Kristin and Jon, this hands-on class will help participants learn how to create a flowerbed or landscaping plan, choose what to plant and design a space in preparation for spring planting. The class will be limited to 20 participants.
"We wanted to create a series that offers a little bit of everything--from fun, hands-on projects to practical information that participants can use in their own yards and gardens" said Parks Supervisor Kristin Titus. “We hope the community is as excited as we are about these new class offerings!”
