DES MOINES -- Central Iowa residents can now reserve low-cost, high-quality trees for the upcoming fall planting season through Trees Forever's tree distribution. Property owners may reserve up to five trees to be picked up at the Oct. 10 distribution event in Des Moines by visiting TreesForever.org/Adopt.
These trees are 3-gallon container planted and stand between one and five feet tall. Species include American Smoketree, Blackgum, Northern Catalpa, Paw Paw (three varieties for pollination), Red Buckeye, Sugarberry, Sweet Bay Magnolia and White Flowering Dogwood.
This tree distribution is part of the One Million Trees Central Iowa initiative, a goal to plant, preserve and create policy to expand the tree canopy in Central Iowa by one million trees through 2032.
Participating counties in the initiative include Boone, Story, Marshall, Guthrie, Dallas, Polk, Jasper, Madison, Warren and Marion. Residents from these counties are encouraged to reserve trees from this event.
Residents may visit TreesForever.org/Adopt to order the trees now. All trees must be reserved prior to the Oct. 10 pick-up event. Participants will bring a vehicle to the Bell Avenue Business Center parking lot, 1901 Bell Ave., Des Moines and Trees Forever volunteers will be on-site to load vehicles and provide tree planting and care information to the new tree owners.
