The City of Marshalltown has introduced a new online Odor Complaint Form to provide residents with a convenient way to report concerns involving offensive odors that may affect health, comfort or use and enjoyment of their property.

Residents submitting a complaint will be asked to provide specific information about the odor, including the date and time of the occurrence, its location, description and duration and any known or suspected source. The form also requests information about the odor's effects on residents and their property. Additional details, such as wind direction and speed, may help the City evaluate the reported circumstances.
Residents are encouraged to provide detailed, accurate information based on their personal observations. Specific dates, times, descriptions and documented impacts can assist the City in reviewing complaints and determining whether further investigation is warranted.
Submitting a complaint does not automatically establish a violation of City Code. Each complaint will be evaluated based on the information provided and any additional evidence available. Complainants should also be aware that they may be asked to provide additional information, cooperate with an investigation or testify in court regarding their observations and the effects of the odor.
The City encourages residents experiencing recurring or unusually offensive odors to use the new online form to document their concerns and provide information that may assist the City in addressing potential violations.
