The City of Marshalltown is seeking volunteer applicants for an opening on the Board of Adjustment, term ending March 31, 2029.
The Board of Adjustment consists of five members appointed by the Mayor and meets on the third Tuesday of each month as needed. Each serves a 5-year term. No more than two of the five members may also be appointed to the Plan and Zoning Commission. A majority of the members shall be representatives of the public at large and shall not be involved in the business of purchasing or selling real estate.
The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial board that has the authority to allow use of zoned property for a non-conforming use or extension of a non-conforming use as provided in the Zoning Ordinance. If an applicant disagrees with the Board's decision on the Variance, Special Use or Appeals, they would appeal to the Court system.
Appointees will be required to complete a 2-hour online training on Iowa Code Chapter 21 Open Meetings and Chapter 22 Open Records within 90 days of appointment.
Any interested applicant can complete an application at: www.marshalltown-ia.gov/FormCenter/Boards-Commissions-6/Application-for-Appointment-to-Boards-an-44. For further information contact Clayton Ender at 641-754-5756 or cender@marshalltown-ia.gov. Application deadline is at 12 p.m. on Nov. 4.
