Marshalltown High School is preparing for its 2026 Homecoming festivities, which begin next week. The Coca-Cola Scholars Program, the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship program in the country, is now accepting applications from high school seniors to be Coca-Cola Scholars and receive one of 150 college scholarships worth $20,000. Marshalltown Public Library to host All Iowa Reads book discussion

The Marshalltown Public Library invites members of the community to a program at either 2 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 in the library’s Matt Perkins Lounge to discuss the 2026 Adult All Iowa Reads title, “The Quiet Librarian,” by Allen Eskens. Controlled goose hunt at Hickory Grove Park

Story County Conservation is offering a controlled goose hunt at Hickory Grove Park to reduce the numbers and amount of time geese use the lake as a fall and winter refuge. Large goose populations contribute to the bacterial level of the lake. Hickory Grove Park is open for goose hunting only from Oct. 3–18, Oct. 24 – Dec. 15 and Dec. 19 to Jan. 16, 2027.
