Quaker Oats Company donates pallets of food

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO - Pallets of food from Quaker Oats Company in Cedar Rapids towered over the UAW Local 893 parking lot, 411 Iowa Ave W., Thursday. Mike Ladehoff of Local 893 said the Quaker Oats had originally planned to donate 10 pallets full of food and ended up delivering over 20. With the help of the neighboring Central Iowa Farm Store staff, the UAW members loaded up the pallets and distributed the food to the UAW food bank, local schools, the Salvation Army and more. Among the products were cereal, oatmeal and cookies. Ladehoff said other organizations, including Teamsters Local 238, UFCW Local 1149, JBS Marshalltown, Hy-Vee and the Iowa River Labor Coalition helped with the delivery and distribution effort Thursday.
