IRVING, Texas — A day after setting the Iowa State men’s basketball record for assists in a game, freshman point guard Tyrese Haliburton was named the Big 12 Conference’s Newcomer of the Week.

Haliburton handed out 17 assists in the Cyclones’ 101-65 win over Southern University on Sunday inside Hilton Coliseum, breaking the single-game mark previously set 44 years ago.

Haliburton averaged 11.3 points, 8.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists as Iowa State went 2-1 last week. He had 15 points to go with his record-setting 17 assists in the win over Southern.
