SPORTS SHORTS: Kickbush wins ARC weekly honor

WAVERLY — Former Gladbrook-Reinbeck basketball standout and current Wartburg senior guard Cam Kickbush has been named the American Rivers Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Kickbush led the Knights to a 2-0 week with wins over Buena Vista and Dubuque. Against the Beavers, Kickbush had a career-high 33 points, including a 9-for-13 mark from the 3-point line, breaking the previous Wartburg single game record.

Kickbush also had 13 points against the Spartans, and with his 46 total points on the week he moved into 24th all-time in the Knights’ career scoring list with 1,135 points.

MCC women fall to William Penn JV

The Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team lost a home game to the William Penn University junior varsity on Monday, 79-56.

Danielle Smith had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Tigers, while Lotte van Malsen and Laurin Lyons each had eight points.

Jenny Hugins scored 28 points to lead the Statesmen, while Deja Dagons had 13 points and Cassidy Turner 12.
