ALA Unit 46 holds general meeting
The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. on Aug. 11 by Meg Sponseller followed by opening prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, standing in silence and the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary. Following the annual salad and dessert supper, one of the Girls State representatives, Rory Piscitelli, was introduced. The representatives and their families are asked to join the ALA for a meal and then give a brief presentation about the week at Girls State. Daylily plant auction is Saturday
The Central Iowa Daylily Society will hold an informal daylily plant auction at 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 15 at the Marshall County Extension Office at 2608 S. Second St. in Marshalltown. These daylilies have been supplied by members and from Minnesota daylily hybridizers Mike Grosmann and Kathleen Nordstrom. Eighteen of their unique varieties will be auctioned. Club members will also provide daylilies, iris and other plants for the auction. The auction is quite casual and will be a great opportunity to get daylilies at very reasonable prices. “It’s exciting to see how God is working in Sierra Leone,” said Bandstra, as she described how her father, Mark Boland, had traveled on a missionary journey to Sierra Leone, West Africa some time ago. Emergency Food Box holds 3rd quarter meeting
The Emergency Food Box Board held its third quarterly meeting July 16 at 107 N. First St. Chair Gary Fulton called the meeting to order at 5:04 p.m. with 14 board members present. Pastor LaCosta VanDyk led the opening prayer. The minutes of the April meeting sent to all board members by email were approved as printed. Treasurer LeRoy Jero presented the treasurer’s report. He reported that donations have been very good. The Emergency Food Box is in a very sound financial position. The report will be filed for audit.
