Chapter BB initiates new member

P.E.O. Chapter BB gathered on Monday at the Mowry Irvine Mansion at 1 p.m. The hostess, Michelle Roseburrough along with the tea committee of Sue Cope and Sandy Short served a delightful fall dessert. The meeting was opened by President Sylvia Lowrance who led the ceremony of initiation for Barbara Lorenzo. Following the meeting LaDonna Allison and Lowrance led a review of the book “Tending Roses” by Lisa Wingate. The story is a touching tale that reminds us to stop and smell the roses. IVCCD referendum is Kiwanis P.M. program

President Kenny Lamb called the meeting of Kiwanis P.M. to order at 7 p.m. on Wednesday with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence. Peggy Lamb introduced speakers Kristie Fisher, Cindy Schulte and Kathy Pink, representing Iowa Valley Community College District and the upcoming referendum on Nov. 5. Education has long been important to the community. Nothing proves this more than the beginnings of Marshalltown Community College in 1920, then known as a Junior College. Retired school personnel hear program on history

The Marshall County Retired School Personnel Association met Oct. 21 at the Fisher Community Center. The program “Iowa Culture and History” was presented by Jessica Rundlett from the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. She spoke and showed pictures of many interesting, but not well known sites in the state: the Fenelon Elevator in Dubuque, the Ice Cream Capital of the World museum in Le Mars, the site of the first moving train robbery by Jesse James near Adair, the Frank Lloyd Wright Hotel in Mason City and the Vesterheim Museum in Decorah. Optimists install incoming officers and directors

The Noon Optimist Club of Marshalltown held its Installation Banquet for incoming officers and directors for the 2019-20 year on Oct. 2 at Riverview Park Reunion Hall in Marshalltown. President Damon Morrison provided the welcome and invocation to start the banquet followed with the Pledge of Allegiance. Morrison noted the last year has been successful for the Noon Optimist Club. He mentioned several areas where he expects the incoming president to continue making improvements. P.E.O. Chapter LT Lavish Taste fundraising silent auction

P.E.O. Chapter LT had a fundraising silent auction, Lavish Taste, on Monday at Iowa River Hospice Meeting Room. Dorien Putman, chairman of ways and means committee, directed the event of member donated items of food, handmade items, home decorative articles and miscellaneous items that the members bid on. The money raised will be used for P.E.O. projects given to women for post high school education in the U.S. and Canada for Scholar Awards, STAR Scholarship, Program for Continuing Education, International Peace Scholarship, Educational Loan Fund and Cottey College in Nevada, Mo. ...
