South Tama volleyball squad downed East Marshall 25-10, 25-13 and 25-9 as Alicia Hagerty led the Trojans with 12 kills, Abby Horbach had a team-high 29 assists and eight digs and Lexie Hagerty had five of the 14 team aces.

This contingent of students represented Marshalltown High School at the FBLA State Leadership Conference: Hillary Clark, Marla Swanson, Cindy Cannon, Bryan Newton, Angie Wilson, Lisa Daniels, Matt Mann, Stefanie Hookie, Scott Vinson, Gabriel Exline and Angie Suchan.

BCL whipped Wellsburg 46-15 and remained unbeaten as Roger Moler led the rushing with 108 yards in nine carries and Craig Hupfeld was credited with 13 solo tackles leading the defense as well as 85 yards rushing.

MHS sophomore Jill Lageschulte placed first in the CIML Iowa Conference meet with a time of 14 minutes, 45 seconds while teammate Stephen Dak scorched his competition to gain first place and bring home the conference crown for the boys team.

Andy Goodman, West Marshall senior cross country star, took the South Hamilton Invitational title in a time of 16:38 for his sixth straight win of the year.

Christy Tharp was crowned the Grundy Center Homecoming Queen for 1975 and her attendants were: Janice Holmes, Ann Hopkins, Lori Klaassen and Pam Voss.

BCLUW Comet volleyball overcame a 2-2 tie and won the fifth match 15-10 for the victory as Cassie Miller finished with 14 kills, Brittany Sanderson had 33 assists and Kris Penick 17 digs to lead the Comets.

The West Marshall Trojans blanked Gilbert 20-0 on Homecoming night as Chris Juel led the rushers with 107 yards in 19 carries, Rod Porter connected on 10-of-15 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns and Troy Clark caught six of Porter’s passes for 96 yards.

Denny Cruikshank, of the South Tama Trojans, rushed for 178 yards, added 25 yards receiving and scored three touchdowns in the 28-8 victory over Saydel which earned him Area Player of the Week honors.

Miller Middle School co-presidents for the 2005-06 school year were Bria Devine, daughter of Paul and Roxana Devine, and James Oden, son of Anthony and Pasha Oden.

The No. 1 ranked MHS girls swim team romped to the first team title in the 11-team Urbandale Invitational setting a number of meet and school records and amassing 393 points outdistancing second place by more than 100 points as Emily O’Toole had another good meet as did diver Angie Mullinix who added 358.45 points for 11 dives.

MHS harrier Jamey Hutcheson set a new course record with a 9:53 run at the Cedar Falls Invitational as both the boys and girls won their final duals of the season and Kris Skov led the girls to victory followed closely by: Bev Boddicker, Jodi Brintnall and Peggy Clark to tak the top four spots.

Rachel Pfantz, of State Center and a senior at West Marshall High School, was crowned the State Center Rose Queen in June and then after the start of school was named the 2005 West Marshall Homecoming Queen.

Befitting the theme for the YWCA Family Halloween Carnival, Brant Pfantz, Ryan Krabbe, Nicholas Pfantz, Zachary Pfantz and Kyle Krabbe were dressed in their favorite sport team uniforms armed with their treat bags and ready for fun.

Diane Honeck, daughter of Doug and Eileen Honeck, of rural State Center, was crowned the 1991 Marshall County Pork Industry Queen at the annual Marshall Co. Pork banquet.

The MHS girls swim team ended a three-meet losing streak when they smashed Grinnell 104-67 as Lisa Thompson won the 100 freestyle, Cathy Taylor the 200 IM and Holly Handorf the diving event.

The Marshalltown Community College Tiger volleyball squad rebounded from a slow start and defeated NIACC 30-15, 30-22 and 30-15 as Valerie Murphy set a new MCC single-match record when she had 15 aces and made 11 straight points and Megan Streb led a balanced attach with 20 kills while Whitney Lang added a team-high 20 digs.

Lisa Troehler, a senior graphic design student at Washington University and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milt Troehler, of Marshalltown, received a Brunell Hammermill Design Award of $500.

MCC Tiger tennis players won 6-3 over Muscatine as Rick Cathcart, Becky Brintnall, Jeff Tuttle, Casey Kapaun and Terry Robinson nailed the singles matches and the team of Robinson and Jeff Thompson won their doubles match to complete the victory.
