Liscomb Auxiliary elects new officers

LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met on June 1 at the Community Church in Union with Dorothy Sorensen as hostess. President Sharon Hatch called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. with five ladies answering roll call telling what event they attended on Memorial Day. Chaplain pro-tem Toni Kinney gave devotions. The Unit recited the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the Auxiliary Preamble in unison. A moment of silence was observed for the MIA/POW and deceased veterans.

The May meeting minutes were read and approved. A thank-you note was read from BCLUW Middle School teachers and staff for the two meat, cheese and fruit trays. An invitation to the Iowa Veterans Home fifth Ladies Luncheon was read. Candy Wait and Hatch plan to attend. Ladies are to take a salad or dessert for the 12 p.m. meal.

Election of officers was held: Presidents, Hatch; Vice President, Sorensen; Secretary-Treasurer, Wait and Chaplain Vickie Penner.

The next meeting will be July 6 at the Community Church in Union for a 12 p.m. potluck. The Unit’s Girls State attendee Lauren Mosher and her family will be invited as guests.

Hatch read out of the Auxiliary Blue Book about the emblem.

Sorensen read a poem entitled, “Our America.”

June 14 is Flag Day, so fly the American flag proudly.

Hatch read “What Makes a Dad.”

The Chaplain pro tem closed with prayer. Each member got to take a bouquet of irises home from President Hatch’s flower garden.
