VFW Auxiliary discusses upcoming activities

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Post 839 met on Tuesday at the Post Home. The meeting started at 6:30 p.m. There were 19 members present.

Linda Tasler, president, conducted the meeting according to the ritual. July General Orders were read. The Pledge of Allegiance was spoken. The June minutes were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was read. The bills were moved to be paid.

Correspondence was from the Central Iowa Art Association, Camp Courageous, CIRSI and from Chuck Grassley.

Tasler sent 11,162 coupons to CIRSI and l,175 stamps to Stamps for The Wounded. Judy Scheibel reported 279 Auxiliary members contributed 490 hours to community service which amounted to $2,275.24.

The Money March was conducted. Prayer was said for the children at the WW National Home for Children.

There will be Department WW Auxiliary Bingo at Iowa Veterans Home on July 28. The Department Post Bingo is held on the third Monday each month. Deloris Clayton encouraged all to help veterans.

Letters were distributed for us to sign asking elected politicians to help the veterans.

Contributions will be given to the IVH library to purchase DVD’s.

Drinks and rolls will be sold at the garage sale on July 29 by 839 Auxiliary members.

The Department awarded cash to members for participation in their programs. This will be given to the Department Bingo activity.

The audit was read and moved to be accepted.

Clayton read about the wearing of the Poppy and its meaning for veterans who have and are serving.

The meeting closed according to the ritual. The next meeting will be at the Post on Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
