VFW Auxiliary prepares for December activities

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Post 839 met on Nov. 19 at the Post home. A joint meeting was held with the Post to plan for the Christmas Party on Dec. 14. The meeting started at 6:40 p.m. There were 15 members present.

Connie Kennelley, president, conducted the meeting according to the ritual. The Pledge of Allegiance was spoken. The October minutes were read and corrected. The Treasurer’s report was filed for audit. The Money March was conducted. Prayer was said for the children at the VFW National Home for Children.

Judy Schiebel reported 52 members contributed 160 hours to community service which amounts to $892.68. Linda Tasler delivered 3,802 coupons to CIRSI.

Correspondence was from the Cynthia Bruster, Aimee Deimerly-Snyder, of Iowa Veteran’s Home; Camp Courageous and Puppy Jake were read.

Department members Sandra Gray and Sandi Lee will receive get-well cards. Weighted Blankets will be made from 9 a.m. to noon each Monday at Post 839.

Contributions will be sent to IVH for Family Visit Day, for gifts to the residents and for Christmas Cards to the Bingo players. A Thanksgiving basket will be given to a veteran and a Christmas meal will be given to a family who is a VFW and VFW member.

A silent auction will be conducted at the Christmas Party. Marion Hyde donated two collectible military bottles for the auction.

Happy Birthday was sung to Kay, Doris, Kennelley, Schiebel, Ethel Tietje, Carol Ewolt and Donna Mitchem. These had birthdays in the months of June to December.

Kennelley closed the meeting according to the ritual.

The next meeting will be at 5 p.m. on Dec. 14. The Christmas party will follow.
