Many items discussed at VFW Auxiliary

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Post 839 met on Tuesday at the Post home. The meeting started at 6 p.m. There were 10 members present.

President Connie Kennelley conducted the meeting according to the ritual. The Pledge of Allegiance was spoken. The February minutes were read and corrected.

Judy Schiebel reported 19 members contributed 68 hours for the community service which amounted to $250.68.

Donna Mitchem agreed to fill the position of treasurer. Checks have been ordered.

Correspondence was from the VFW National Home for Children and three from Iowa Veterans Home.

The Money March was conducted. A prayer was said for the VFW National Home for Children.

A thank you letter will be sent to John Andresen for the 343 boxes he made for IVH that the VFW Auxiliary 839 delivered. The residents will sand the boxes and decorate them. Liz Polkiewicz sent Valentine Cards to IVH residents.

It was reported that Chrystal Farris will be the new recreational director at IVH.

There will be collection items for Camp Courageous until June.

The coupons brought will be distributed to CIRSI and to a military base in Japan.

A craft show will be held by the American Legion and VFW 839 Auxiliaries on March 20 at each location. VFW Auxiliary 839 will have a bake sale as well as asking for donations for the flags that will be put together on March 10 by volunteers. Bean bags will also be made from the beads that were used to make weighted blankets. The bags will be sold as a piece of a game.

A card will be sent to a member who is recovering at his daughters’ home in Texas.

Kennelley reported year end reports are due by April 1. A committee will work on them. She said the guidelines will only have the time changed on them.

The VFW Auxiliary will collect items in April for the Adopt-A-Unit program.

The VFW Third District will meet on April 17 at Marshalltown. President Sandy Weldon will be the representative. Canned goods will be collected to be delivered to the Emergency Food Box in Marshalltown.

The Motorcycle Run will be held on May 5. VFW Post 839 will be one of the stopping places.

Carol Ewalt moved $200 to be spent on Little Debby snacks to give to IVH for their unit bingo games. Diane Welch seconded. It carried.
