Marshalltown VFW holds June session

Marshalltown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 839 leaders aired this summers coming activities during Tuesdays June meeting, with Commander Rob Shepherd in charge.

Prior to Shepherd opening the meeting Bob Miller reported on joint VFW/American Legion Honor Guard actions, noting four participations at military funerals during May. He also reviewed financial and rifle conditions.

The Harry C. Harter Post was draped during the meeting in honor of Eugene Goodman.

Rick Johnson reported that the recent meat sale in cooperation with JBS and the Flags For Veterans Graves project in cooperation of local stores proved financially successful. He and Shepherd led discussion about planning toward posting patriotic and military flags on VFW property honoring veterans service.

The commander also mentioned being approached for financial donation to local Boy Scouts programs. Also brought up by VFW veterans was assisting the local Sea Cadets program. Shepherd and Johnson reported the agreement for mowing the lawn by area youths for property at 107 E. Meadow Lane is proving satisfactory.

Adjutant Larry Tuttle’s comrades voiced in favor of donating funds for his medical expenses, but he declined immediate need. Tuttle read role call and presented past minutes of VFW; Quartermaster Roger Dirks provided a detailed report on Post 839 finances; Chaplain Gary Scott read prayers and Rick Johnson serve guard duties.
