Ostrem speaks to Chapter JU-LT

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO P.E.O. Chapter JU-LT member Tracy Ostrem revealed her favorite pair of shoes, her white baby shoes, which followed her presentation of the program topic of footwear. Also displayed were her iconic-style saddle shoes and her mother’s Victorian era lace-up boots.

“The shoe does not walk alone, it must be filled by a foot to make its journey,” said Tracy Ostrem — an excerpt from her youth program speech replicated and delivered to P.E.O. Chapter JU-LT. “And, like the shoe, we cannot make our journey alone.”

The program’s focus ranged from high fashion design to the history of the shoe, such as the first shoe’s sizing system existing in barleycorn with three barleycorns equaling one inch.

Next, each member spoke of the story of their favorite pair of shoes worn or brought to the meeting as a get-to-know-you activity.

Co-President Ann Isgrig opened the meeting, and Jennie Van Gundy presented a Bible scripture passage regarding the harvest by reading the “fruit of the Spirit” section from Galatians 5:22.

Following the meeting and program, the tea was prepared by Ostrem and assisted by Jolene Jebsen and Sharon Jensen.

The next meeting will be held Nov. 3 with a theme titled “Family Meeting,” a gathering recommended by the State Chapter, and a silent auction.
