• Arthur Ernesto Valladares made an initial appearance on a violation of probation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $1,000 cash.

• Deng Majok Wol made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. Wol pleaded guilty and the fine is $105 with a $15.75 surcharge and $60 in court charge for a total of $180.75.

• Anser Antes made an initial appearance through an interpreter on a failure to appear for an operating while under the influence-second offense initial appearance charge. The next court appearance will be scheduled by the District Court. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court.

Antes was also seen on a violation of probation charge. The District Court will set the revocation hearing. Ante is being held without bond.

• Malinda Cruz Bautista made an initial appearance on a pre-trial release violation. Pre-trial release is revoked. Bond is set at $5,000 cash.

• Heidi Marie Niedermann made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. on Sept. 6.

• On Wednesday, Aug. 16, Zachary Bolar, 43, was arrested on a warrant charging him with driving while barred-habitual offender.

Accidents

• On Saturday, Aug. 12, an SUV driven by Ethan Spencer Dick, 21, of Hoffman, Ill., was westbound on 140th Street when the driver became distracted by a red tailed hawk that swooped across the highway which resulted in the driver swerving to miss the hawk, loosing control and entering the north ditch where the vehicle overturned onto its top. Dick was transported to UnityPoint-Marshalltown by the Gladbrook Ambulance Service with minor cuts and bruises. Dick was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Dick SUV was estimated at $10,000.

• On Monday, Aug. 7, an SUV driven by Yvette Marie Catron, 29, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Catron SUV was estimated at $6,000.

• On Wednesday, Aug. 1, a pickup driven by Joan Miriam Nix, 56, of Vinton, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway from the median. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Nix pickup was estimated at $8,000.

• On Tuesday, Aug. 1, an SUV driven by Jane Marie Smith, 67, of Beaman, was southbound on Sanford Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway from the west ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Smith SUV was estimated at $5,000.
