Disaster Recovery Fund created in response to pandemic
The Community Foundation of Marshall County (CFMC) has established the Marshall County Disaster Recovery Fund (MCDRF) to support negatively impacted populations as they face the effects of COVID-19.
The MCDRF provides an opportunity for the public to give with the reassurance donations will be used to quickly move resources to where they are most needed and to adapt to evolving needs. The flexibility of the fund will ensure that the community will be able to respond to needs that are not being met by local, state and federal programs and also support non-profit organizations to expand operations to meet increased needs.
The Community Foundation’s Advisory Board and the Martha-Ellen Tye Foundation have already committed funds to the MCDRF.
CFMC Executive Director Julie Hitchins said “I am pleased that CFMC is able to provide a centralized giving opportunity for donors and we will then partner with local non-profits to provide immediate assistance for the citizens of Marshall County most adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Dollars received will first focus on disproportionately affected communities by addressing economic needs and health challenges of populations negatively impacted by COVID- 19 related closures and other effects of the outbreak. The long-term application of the fund will focus on additional needs that are not being met which will inevitably arise.
The Community Foundation of Marshall County, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, was created by and for the people of Marshall County. The Foundation’s goals are to support charitable projects in programs throughout the county and to assist donors in creating lasting legacies through a variety of giving options.
