Renovations to Marshalltown Hy-Vee almost complete

After months of work and $3 million spent, the Hy-Vee in Marshalltown will soon be complete, according to a press release issued Sept. 2. In it, Hy-Vee said the store expects for all changes to be completed by the end of the month.
The remodeling took place in all of the store’s major sections, with major changes to the food-service area — where the store has updated a Market Grille Express and a brand-new Mia Pizza as well as updating signage and decor in the area at the front left section of the store.
The renovations began in early 2020 and include a new update to many Hy-Vees in Central Iowa, including locations in Ames and Ankeny — a candy department that was expanded this year.
Mary Fuhrman, the Senior Vice President of Hy-Vee’s northern region, said it’s a big step for the store in a difficult year for the city.
“We hope our customers are just as excited about these renovations as we are,” Fuhrman said. “The Marshalltown area has been through some extremely tough times over the past few years, and we are honored to be able to provide assistance to the community when Mother Nature has wreaked havoc.”
This is another step in the growth of the Marshalltown store, which was opened in May 1963, and was managed by future Hy-Vee President and CEO, Ron Pearson. The store was at Olive and Center streets at the time, before being relocated in 1994 to its current spot at 802 S. Center St.
This is the latest in a long string of remodels the location has undergone, including the addition of a Wine and Spirits section added in 2007. It’s the biggest remodel for the store since with the price tag to match, and Hy-Vee made sure to clarify that none of the money was from outside sources.
“Our Marshalltown store is one of the most popular locations we have in our HyVee region, and we’ve been very proud to support Marshalltown and its residents for many years,” Fuhrman said. “We’re really looking forward to unveiling these enhancements and our expanded product selections to our customers and serving them with our familiar helpful smiles.”
The news of the store completing renovations soon is on the back of the help the location provided to Marshalltown community members following the Aug. 10 derecho which devastated the town and left many without power. Hy-Vee brought a semi-trailer full of food and water to the location the Sunday after the storm and provided to anyone who showed up.
Fuhrman said it was an extension of the ties Hy-Vee has to the city.
“Our Hy-Vee promise is to support the communities that support our stores, and we’re proud of our Marshalltown Hy-Vee employees who have been some of the very first to offer a helping hand during tough times, including our most recent derecho,” Fuhrman said. “We hope this updated store provides a fantastic shopping experience and a friendly, welcoming place for everyone in the Marshalltown area.”
