Marshalltown clean-up day set for May 15

From 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., on May 15, Marshalltown residents can drop off large items at a dumpster site free of charge.

The site is located at 1106 Marion St., or the JBS parking lot on the north side of Marion Street. Stone Sanitation will partner with the city again this year.

However, not everything will be accepted. Regular trash or garbage, tires, asbestos containing materials, propane cylinders and appliances are just a few of the items which will not be accepted. Tree and vegetative debris will not be accepted, but the compost facility will be open. Hazardous wastes will also not be accepted at this site, but a special drop off will also be held at the Wastewater Treatment Plant from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 1101 Woodland St.

This event was not able to be held in 2020, at first due to the pandemic, and then due to the derecho.

“We know that lots of people probably have garages or basements full of stuff for the last year, and we want to provide a free way for people to get rid of those items,” Jessica Kinser, city administrator said. “This event has been a great way to help people out and save a trip to the landfill.”

The cost of the event is paid for through the landfill fees billed to each utility customer.
