Marshalltown man sentenced on federal drug charge

A Marshalltown man who pleaded guilty last year to importing and distributing methamphetamines from Mexico to Iowa was sentenced to more than 20 years in federal prison Friday.

Genaro Aguilar Lemus, 23 of Marshalltown, was arrested and charged in July 2020 on federal conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine along with Bobbey Dean Robey and Travis Charles Werkmeister.

The arrests were made after raids throughout Roland, Cedar Falls, Marshalltown and Waterloo, where the trio was officially charged in court. According to KCRG, Lemus was caught on a wiretap talking to drug trafficker Mario Hernandez.

Lemus pleaded guilty to the charge in May of 2021. He was given a sentence of 243 months, which will equate to roughly 20 ¼ years in prison. Lemus is ineligible for parole in the federal prison system and will also have a 5-year term of supervised release.
