A Gladbrook man has been charged with second offense OWI after allegedly hitting a utility pole and causing a temporary power outage in Haverhill on Monday night.

According to a press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of Main Street in Haverhill for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole causing a power outage at about 10:50 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Prior to deputies arriving, witnesses in the area had observed the vehicle, a silver 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, attempting to leave the area.

When deputies arrived minutes later, the silver Dodge Ram was located near the crash scene. The vehicle was unoccupied, and there were indications that the driver was injured. A search of the town was conducted before the driver, Cade Bovenmyer, 24, of Gladbrook, was identified and located in the area around the Haverhill Social Club.

Bovenmyer was arrested and charged with several traffic charges including OWI second offense after a preliminary breath test indicated that his blood alcohol concentration was 0.238, nearly three times the legal limit for operating a motor vehicle.

Bovenmyer is being held in the Marshall County Jail and was scheduled to have an initial appearance on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. Power was restored to the city of Haverhill several hours later as the crash remains under investigation.
