Tom McCoy receives highest Rotary award
On Dec. 10, Tom McCoy was honored at the annual Rotary Club of Marshalltown Christmas Party receiving the Kenneth Brintnall Award. The Kenneth Brintnall Award was started in 1975 by Dave Norris who was club president at the time. Each year the winner is selected by a committee made up of former recipients.
The Kenneth Brintnall Award is the highest award bestowed on any member by the Club. The award is granted to a Rotarian for a lifetime of service achievement in the Rotary tradition of Service Above Self. This year’s Kenneth Brintnall Award winner certainly exemplifies that motto.
Tom McCoy has been a longtime community booster and leader who has given back to the community, trying to make our town a better place. He has served as president and/or a board member for many community betterment organizations. Tom is a Past President of the Big Brother and Big Sister Board, Past President of the Marshalltown Area United Way Board of Directors, Past Co-Chair of Fundraising for Marshalltown Area United Way Campaign, and Past District Chair of Boy Scouts Prairie Winds.

Tom was a co-chair for the project “Vests for the Best”, raising $140,000 in nine months to provide ceramic vests and helmets for Marshall County law enforcement officers and first responders. He also spearheaded the solar oven program for the orphanage in Sierra Leona, Africa.
Tom has used his association with the Million Dollar Round Table to secure a grant that funded the construction of eight Habitat for Humanity Homes in the Philippines following Typhoon Yolanda. He is currently serving on the Outreach Program Board based in Union, Iowa. The Outreach Program provides packaged food to those in need in the United States and Africa.
Tom is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Marshalltown and is currently serving as a Rotary District 6000 Assistant Governor.
Tom grew up in Lafayette, Ohio. After graduation he attended Judson University, graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He moved to Marshalltown in 1985. His family includes his wife Jade, and four children – Ashley, Wesley, Shannon, and Sarah. He and Jade are proud grandparents to seven grandchildren and they share their home with three dogs: Kona, Cooper, and Maxx.
