Funeral Services for Dean Splittgerber, 64, of Marshalltown, IA, were held Thursday, June 16, 2016, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church with Fr. Don Czapla Celebrant. Alter Servers were Ethan and Paige Wertzberger. Readers were Megan Splittgerber Lone and Sarah Splittgerber. Gift Bearers were Leah and Kayla Karns and Jackie Mask. Eucharistic Ministers were Larry Lemker, Mary Wertzberger and Jane Jennings. Dean was laid to rest in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus providing the Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Alex Splittgerber, Jordan Mask, Joshua Mask, Zachery Mask, Timmy Lone, Andrew Mask and Travis Mask.
Groups in attendance were from the Marshalltown Parks and Rec, Fisher Controls, Marshalltown Slo-Pitch teams, Marshalltown Class of 1970, Knights of Columbus, United States Softball Association, Wolfe Eye Clinic, Iowa River Hospice, McFarland Clinic, MHS Girls Softball, 500 Card Club, Turbo Soccer Team and Loras College Soccer Team.

Dean Splittgerber, 64, of Marshalltown, is now playing on heaven’s baseball team after leaving this earthly life on the afternoon of Sunday, June 12th, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his family at his side.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 16th, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church with Fr. Don Czapla officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-7:00 p.m. also at the church. A 7:00 p.m. vigil service will follow. Born on February 19th, 1952, in Wayne, Nebraska, he was the son of Harvey and Elna (Meyer) Splittgerber. He graduated from the Marshalltown High School’s Class of 1970 and later Iowa State and Buena Vista, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree. For 40 years, Dean was a faithful employee at Emerson Process Fisher Division. His homes included Wayne, NE; Grundy Center, IA; Marshalltown and St. Louis, MOthus getting to be the Cardinal’s number one fan!
On May 18th, 1985, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jerilyn Mask, in Traer, Iowa. The couple was blessed with two sons, Matthew and Michael.
Dean was a faithful member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, Iowa Girls’ Softball Association, Amateur Softball Association and the United States Softball Association. He treasured his time with his family and friends, umpiring softball, baseball, and basketball; playing golf and watching soccer and cheering on Iowa State and the St. Louis Cardinals. This past fall, he was able to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.
Left to cherish his memory are Jeri, his loving wife of 31 years; two sons- Matthew (Brittany) Splittgerber, of Coralville, and Michael, of Des Moines; his brother Mark (Kathy) Splittgerber, of West Des Moines, and sister Julie Tichy, of Marshalltown, as well as brothers-in-law: Joel (Julie) Mask, Bruce Mask and David Mask, all of Traer, and Larry Kopriva, of Ankeny, and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
In death, Dean rejoined his parents, baby brother, Gerald; sisters-in-law Leta Kopriva and Llona Neuman; brothers-in-law Richard Mask and Danny Mask, and in-laws Ralph and Bertha Mask.
