Kenneth W. Hoing

Kenneth W. Hoing, fondly known as “Pete,” left this earthly life on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at the Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook at the age of 97 years, 4 months and 16 days.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 6th, at the Gladbrook Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Keefer officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the Gladbrook American Legion Ehrig-McTurk Post #122. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to his family. Born on January 17th, 1922, in rural Tama County, he was one of three children born to John E. and Elsie I. (Zink) Hoing. He graduated from the Green Mountain High School in 1940.

Pete served our country honorably as part of the “Greatest Generation” in WWII. Upon his return from the service, he farmed in the Green Mountain community until retiring in 1985. During his career, he won many awards for showing swine. In 1998, he moved to the Embers in Marshalltown. He attended the Gladbrook Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews in his life as well as their families including: Don (Joann) Sams, of McKinney, TX, Steven (Carolyn) Sams, of Simpsonville, SC, Linda Terbl, of Conroe, TX, Pam (John) Fleming, of Gladbrook, Peggy (Lynn) Rinderknecht, of Van Horne, IA, and June (Ron) Bessman, of Gladbrook. Also surviving are many great nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and cousins and friends.

In death, Pete rejoined his parents, sister Gladys (Dean) Sams and brother Wilford (Amy) Hoing.
