Francis (Dick) Richard Roe was born on August 21, 1935, in Grinnell, Iowa, to George D. Roe and Emma Edith (Halterman) Roe. He was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1953. On December 29, 1955, Dick was united in marriage to Josie Lee Eames at the Community Church in Gilman, Iowa. The couple lived in Grinnell and later Lares, Puerto Rico before returning to Grinnell in 1958. They moved to Gilman in 1971.

Dick was employed and retired from a long career at DeLong Sportswear in Grinnell, Iowa. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed being a boy scout leader. His other favorite activities were fishing, hunting and spending time at the family cabin in Ely, Minnesota. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Josie. One of his greatest hobbies was woodworking, making many wonderful gifts for others.

Dick is survived by two daughters, Suzanne (Ken) Golder, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Laura (Chris) Purdy, of Lakeville, Minnesota. Dick has six grandchildren; Eli Golder, Abigail Golder, Meghan (Taylor) Lisenby, Quinn Purdy, Olivia Purdy and Samuel Purdy.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Josie Roe; son; David Richard Roe and siblings, George Roe, Jane Morton, Peggy Fleming, Chuck Roe and Barbara Duncan.

A private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please send all memorials to Smith Funeral Home in care of Iowa Marshall County Conservation. The proceeds will benefit all the wonderful outdoor activities in Iowa that Dick enjoyed.
