Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Colleen; children: Shawn Hayes (Mike Ruby) and Brian (Kendra) Hayes. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings Gregg (Toni), Roger (Sue), Joe (Chris) Hayes and Dian (Glen) Ferneau.

Monte's family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on February 21, 2026, 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Waterloo Elks Lodge #290, 407 E. Park Ave. Waterloo, Iowa.
