Cell phone usage

With the new law going into effect on July 1 concerning hands free cell phone use while driving, I have seen many individuals still in violation of the law. Most have been private citizens but several have been delivery people and employees of various local businesses. I have seen comments about educating people about this new law before issuing fines starting on January 1st. I’m certain that many individuals will continue to use their phones for calls and texting in violation of the law after the first of the new year because they feel it is their right to use their phones as they please despite endangering others with their self-centered actions.

Another cell phone issue has been the distraction and disciplinary problems in schools. This has been a problem for many years and finally something has been done to correct the issue. Why does it take so long to take action for a known problem? There have been articles about schools showing great improvement in grades and discipline after banning cell phones. Schools have been successful for many years before phone companies brainwashed the public into believing that you have to have a phone in your hands 24/7/365.

Cell phones can be a useful device if used properly and people realize that there is more to life than a phone. I carry my phone with me most of the time but do not let it distract me from reality.

Starting at $4.38/week.
