Death of Democracy

“It’s horrifying that we have to fight our own government to save the environment,” Ansel Adams once said. Later, Bill Moyers clarified the problem being that the power of money trumps the power of democracy, meaning that a democratic form of government inevitably bends to the will of the wealthy.

America was originally set up with two fundamental operating systems: a capitalist economic system and democratic governing system.

The democratic governing system was composed of three branches; Executive (Office of President), Legislative (two Houses), and Judicial (Supreme Court). These three branches were to provide checks and balances to insure that the rights of all Americans would be protected.

However, our economic system of capitalism, one based firmly upon the acquisition of wealth (resulting in power and influence), has now infiltrated and overpowered all three branches of our political democratic system. This destruction has not come from any outside enemy or military coup, but from within, through wealth accumulated by rich capitalists with voracious appetites to consume, destroy, and dictate all rules.

As a result, the power of money has now bestowed upon us the most immoral, flagrantly corrupt, and hate-filled regime that this country has ever seen.
