Preparing a watchtower

In Old Testament times God encouraged the Jews to build themselves watchtowers. They needed to be aware because Israel’s enemies wanted to kill them. The enemy of God doesn’t want us to live, they want to destroy our relationship to the Creator. Living in this world is like that. We must watch for the devil, he wants us to fail at knowing who God is. In Genesis 3:15 we see scriptural proof that the devil has the right to test our faith as long as we live: satan is still running the show on earth. We are in his domain, he has infected his kind with disbelief and hate. Our poor choices ...

Why should we subsidize nuke plants and giant data centers?

Ronald Reagan once said: “If you want more of something, subsidize it; if you want less of something, tax it.” If this simple principle still holds true, state lawmakers are telling us we need: 1) more nuclear power plants that are costly and produce long-lasting radioactive waste and 2) more giant data centers that gobble up our energy and water resources. Why? According to news reports, legislators want to pass a sales tax exemption (House File 2757) that could cost taxpayers $65 million for the restart of Iowa’s only nuclear power plant — the Duane Arnold Energy Center ...

Consumers are left holding the bag

The Supreme Court recently ruled that “President Trump lacked the legal authority to impose those tariffs and that his administration is to pay it all back to American importers – plus interest.” The “tariff refund portal” is now open for American importers to apply to get back the $166 billion the U.S. illegally collected from them over the past year (with interest), plus reimbursement for taxes paid on those imports. Since only parties formally designated as importers are eligible to seek a refund, consumers will get nothing. So, the ruling suggests that the importers ...

Child Abuse Prevention Month

It’s April and that means Spring has arrived and we are eager to get out, get moving and feel a newness of life. Children are out and about with Parents trying to keep up and the Blue Kids about town are reminding us it’s Child Abuse Prevention month, as well as a time to celebrate children and the gifts they give us- joy, love, curiosity, inspiration, challenges, hope and more. Children are the seedlings (of the future) while Parents are the gardeners charged with nurturing them each and every day. We as individuals and as a community also play a role in supporting children and ...

Media lying by omission

The TV news flaunts the gas price at every newscast because they have Trump. If you ask your device to google the highest gas price, it says over $5 nationally and $4.76 locally in June 2022 which is when Joe Biden was in office. Our media by omission is lying and I think the only unbiased news is the weather. P.S. that’s about $1 more than now.
