A few thoughts on upcoming election

With the final days of this election event closing in, I would like to offer a few thoughts about the following: The race between Sue Cahill and David Blom has been an excellent example of fair and civil discourse between the two. Each has much to offer the community. I think the final issue is somewhat beyond both of them — the current makeup of the Iowa house and chances for internal progress on many things Iowa needs. Voters have a choice of how fast some things may get done, giving David Blom a slight edge here. But whomever you vote for, you’re getting honesty and quality for ...

Sue Cahill is a quality leader

For years as teacher, I have taught students in my classes about quality work. What is looks like in its various forms. How to achieve it in daily work and assignments so that it shows up clearly on tests and final drafts of writing assignments. Sue Cahill is quality leader for Marshall County in state legislature. How do I know? Sue has been an educational leader in the Marshalltown School District for years. She started as a classroom teacher working diligently to become a quality teacher and help other teachers in her building do the same. She went on to be a quality ...

Support Sue Cahill for another term

I’m writing to express my full support for Sue Cahill in the upcoming election. Sue has my vote! She’s been a long-standing member of our community, dedicating many years in education and in our community. After attending the recent candidate forum and hearing both candidates’ responses, it was clear to me that Sue truly knows District 52 and has the insight needed to make the best decisions for us at the state capital. As she seeks another term in the Iowa House of Representatives, her experience and understanding of our community will continue to serve us well. Sue truly ...

Empty promises

He promised to cut the deficit. He added $8T. He promised to build a wall. He only did 458 miles out of 2,000. Most of it was repair or replacement, not new. He promised to make Mexico pay for that wall. They didn’t. We the people did. He promised to unveil a new healthcare plan. It didn’t exist. He promised a middle-class tax cut. He cut taxes for the rich. The middle class is paying for it still. He said he wouldn’t play golf as President. He made 250 visits (way more than Obama) to his own golf clubs. It cost taxpayers $150 million. He said he’d increase economic ...

We owe you nothing

You need to read a post from Alfonso Medina, the owner of La Carreta restaurant. In it, he is speaking for all Hispanic immigrants (legal and undocumented). They are going to leave our country if we don’t bend to them and accept the undocumented. He claims they are the saviors of our land. No, Alfonso, my ancestors and my family have been the builders, protectors and saviors for almost 400 years. They spent 2 months at sea to get here. There were no buses, cash cards, phones, rooms or healthcare. They served in every war. Their graves are strung across this country, especially ...

In support of David Blom

I first started getting to know David Blom a couple years ago. His optimism was the first observation I made about him. That he is a good listener was the second. As we talked about the issues of the time, I noticed he was knowledgeable and asked thoughtful questions. Clerking in the legislature in 2018 and 2019 rooted him in a solid foundation for understanding the legislative process. My lasting impression was that he had the humility to recognize his need to seek to know more and the drive to act upon it. Since then, I’ve come to know David as someone who values common sense and ...
