Important decision/consequences for GMG bond issue vote

In over 40 years teaching/coaching, I always emphasized consequences when it came to decision making for students/players/parents. I am writing to make clear the consequences of this bond issue vote. If the bond issue does not pass, it signals the end of the GMG district as we know it. Garwin has a 100-year-old terribly inefficient building, which has had two recent catastrophic events. People clearly need to understand the vote is about where you want your taxes to go whether the district goes to whole grade sharing or is dissolved. Whatever happens means property taxes will be ...

Sue Cahill: A dedicated and trusted professional

The recent editorial by Police Chief Mike Tupper endorsing our Iowa State House Representative, Sue Cahill hit all the pertinent topics but what that stands out most in my mind are these TV ads that are a pack of lies…We all know they totally misrepresent the Sue Cahill we have elected to the State House and will do so again this election. Sue Cahill is currently serving her second term representing Marshalltown at the Iowa Statehouse and doing an excellent job keeping the citizens and local issues upmost in her daily life. Sue was a guiding force in our school system and took great ...

Biden-Harris Admin. invests in Marshall County

It’s time to give credit where credit is due. I raised my family in Marshalltown and Marshall County still means home to me. I want to share some good news. In the last four years, the Biden-Harris Administration invested $20,315,551 in 28 projects in Marshall County through the American Rescue Plan Act and the Infrastructure Investment Jobs Act. Projects, community by community, include: Albion: Water Meter Read System - $73,266 Clemons: Sewer - $21,083 Ferguson: Dead Tree Removal - $8,525, Fire Department Radios - $6,634 Gilman: Fire Bay Doors - $20,022, Emergency ...

Sue Cahill gives us a seat at the table

David Blom repeatedly says that he’s running because it’s time Marshall County had “a seat at the table” in the Iowa legislature. That’s just a less cynical sounding – but still quite cynical – way of saying that a legislator doesn’t matter unless they’re in the majority. The questions that brings to mind are: Is David Blom ok with that, and should we be? Is this how the legislature is supposed to work? The truth is, Marshall County HAS a seat at the table. That seat does not belong to the Iowa governor, the speaker of the Iowa House, or anyone else affiliated with ...

Know the role when you run for office

Iowa Code is codified by the Iowa Legislature and signed into law by the seated Governor. Following the code is key and that includes the duties prescribed in Section 331.301 that governs County Supervisors. As a County Treasurer I am governed under 331.551. It is critical to understand that EVERY elected official manages their own staff and maintains their office independently. If I have a clerk resign, retire or is terminated, my Supervisors are only there to acknowledge and approve the change of status. If my Sheriff has a change in personnel the same applies. The Supervisors, by ...

The forgotten child

Do you support the forgotten child? Who is this forgotten child you ask? The one who is aborted in their mother’s womb. It is the other person who we want to forget about when talking about women’s right to choose. What is an abortion according to Merriam-Webster? It is the induced termination of the pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. What is an embryo and fetus according to Merriam-Webster? It is a developing human. We are promoting the destruction of the forgotten child by supporting abortion. We have ...
