Mustangs fall in STC tourney semifinals

TAMA – The East Marshall volleyball team went 2-1 to win its pool but was bounced by Hudson in the semifinals of the South Tama County Tournament on Saturday.

The Mustangs (6-12) defeated Grinnell (21-19, 7-21, 15-10) and host South Tama (15-21, 21-17, 15-10) but lost in three games to BGM (18-21, 21-8, 15-13). East Marshall then fell to Hudson, 25-9, 25-19, in the semifinals.

Amanda Paxton led the Mustangs with 20 kills on the day. Brooke Miller added 13 kills and Brooke Finders had 11. Setters Kylee Hoskins and Lana Long racked up 34 and 26 assists, respectively. McKenzie Hinegardner (29) and Tiana Bolar (26) led in digs, while Long served 38-for-38 with six aces. Bolar was 36-for-39 with nine aces. Juliana Arifi and Ellen Hungerford had three blocks apiece.
