Five Tigers tabbed to all-Region IX baseball

Five Marshalltown Community College baseball players earned all-Region XI honors, with three of them being named to the first-team, all-region squad.

Catcher Tony Salato, third baseman Luis Duran and infielder Jose Mieses were all named to the first-team, all-Region XI squads Monday.

Salato, a sophomore from Knoxville, played in 53 games this season, recording 57 hits and 39 runs. He batted .326 and had an on-base percentage of .417.

Duran had more votes than any other player on the first-team selection list, as he batted .413 this season with 76 hits, 43 runs and 60 RBIs. He tallied 10 home runs as well.

Mieses had 61 hits, scored 33 runs and knocked in 25 RBIs. He also recorded a team-best 16 stolen bases.

Diogen Ceballos was named to the second-team, all-Region XI list as a pitcher/infielder, and left-handed pitcher Juan Carlos Gonzalez was named as an honorable mention.
