Comets claim West Marshall tournament

STATE CENTER — The BCLUW girls golf team won the West Marshall Invitational at Lincoln Valley Golf Course on Friday with a score of 393.

Lauren Anderson had the best day on the course for any local athlete, taking runner-up honors with a 90, just one stroke behind medalist Emma Griffin from Nevada.

Two other Comets found their names in the top 10, with Bailey Ashton finishing seventh with a 95 and Mackenzie Trinkle placing tenth with a 103. Rounding out the scoring for BCLUW was Katie Garber with a 105 and Briana Teckenberg with a 112.

South Tama County took second as a team with a score of 413. Madison Rohach led STC by placing fourth with a 93. Finishing off the scoring for South Tama was Taylor Ray with a 104, Kate Froelich with a 107, Taylor Lekin’s 109 and Ashlyn Laybon’s 123.

East Marshall finished in third with a team score of 423. Tylyn Eicher led the Mustangs by shooting a 95, which placed her in fifth. Next for East Marshall was Jazzy Leavy with a 105, followed by Emma Wildman’s 110, Abigail Beal’s 113, Kayla Mommer’s 116 and Rachel McAnulty’s 126.

West Marshall also finished with a team score of 423, but it placed fourth on a sixth-score tiebreaker. Brooke Snider was West Marshall’s leading scorer with a 95, good enough for sixth place, followed by Jenna Kifer with a 108, Whitney Edler with a 109, Karissa Blocker’s 111 and Jaiden Hart’s 116.

Grundy Center took fifth with a team score of 429. Josie Holke-Farnam had a top-10 finish for the Spartans, placing ninth with a 100. Next up for Grundy Center was Frannie Brown with a 109, followed by Lauren Dirks’ 110, Lauren Buhrow’s 110, Claire Verly’s 113 and Lauren Krausman’s 124.

South Hardin placed sixth as a team with a score of 435. Jaelyn Allen placed third for the Tigers with a 92, followed by Ashley Heubner with a 112, Sybil Below with a 112, Claire Brinkmeyer’s 119 and Chloe Edgerton’s 126.
