PREP BASKETBALL: West Marshall boys quiet AGWSR’s offense, 53-40

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall boys basketball team earned its fourth-straight win on Tuesday night with a 53-40 win over NICL West Division foe AGWSR.

Peyton Pope had 23 points to lead the Trojans (7-4, 5-2), while Cameron Bannister had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds, along with five assists. Joe Halverson added 10 points.

Luke Starr led the Cougars (7-3, 6-1) with 14 points, the only AGWSR player in double figures.

Hudson 35, East Marshall 23

LE GRAND — The East Marshall boys basketball team suffered its 10th loss, falling to Hudson 35-23.

Drew Runner was the only player to reach double figures for the Mustangs (2-10) as he finished the night with 10 points. Eric Ommen had six points and Logan Bowie followed with five.

Jacob Murray led the Pirates (4-6) with a game-high 13 points.

GIRLS

West Marshall 35, AGWSR 25

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall girls basketball team took a 35-25 win over Class 1A No. 6 AGWSR in an NICL West Division game on Tuesday.

Karlyn Snider had 10 points and six assists to lead the Trojans (7-4, 6-1), and she added two blocks and four steals. Kayla Cripps had eight points and Teresa Disney had four points, five steals and three assists.

Whitanie Nederhoff led the Cougars (6-4, 4-3) with 12 points, followed by Alyssa Hames with 11.

BCLUW 52, South Hardin 27

CONRAD — The BCLUW girls’ basketball team used a balanced attack to score consecutive wins for the first time this season, taking down South Hardin 52-27 in Tuesday’s NICL West Division contest.

The Comets (6-7, 4-3) were led by Bailey Ashton’s 12 points and six assists. Payton Pekarek added nine points and a team-high five steals, Easton Swanson tallied eight points, seven rebounds and four steals, Jaelyn Allen had seven points and six boards, and Madi Ubben returned to action with six points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Sarah England led South Hardin (0-12, 0-7) with 11 points and Cora Frohwein added seven points.

Baxter 56, GMG 53

BAXTER — The GMG girls’ basketball team trailed from the onset in a 56-53 loss to Baxter in Iowa Star Conference South Division play.

The Bolts (4-8, 2-4) were led by Lilie Vansice with a career-high 15 points and Kaylin Van Ryswyk added 12 points.

The Wolverines pulled within one point with six seconds left but couldn’t convert at the free-throw line. Kelsey Vaverka led GMG (7-4, 2-4) with 16 points and Emily Vaughn had a career-high 13 in the loss.
