SPORTS SHORTS: Kickbush tabbed to all-ARC first team

CEDAR RAPIDS — Former Times-Republican Player of the Year and Gladbrook-Reinbeck standout Cam Kickbush was named to the all-American Rivers Conference first team as a senior for Wartburg College.

Kickbush was also a second-team selection a year ago. He averaged 16.8 points per game this season, which was second on the team behind Jaran Sabus. Kickbush also led the Knights in 3-pointers with 95, shooting at a 44-percent clip from behind the arc.

Kickbush became the career 3-point leader for Wartburg this season with 225 total makes from deep, his 95 3-pointers is the most in a single season in Knight history, and he tied the single-game 3-pointer record with eight against Nebraska Wesleyan in November.

Iowa’s Bluder up for national award

IOWA CITY — University of Iowa women’s basketball head coach Lisa Bluder has been named one of 15 late season candidates for the 2019 Naismith Women’s Basketball College Coach of the Year award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday.

Bluder has led the Hawkeyes to a 22-6 overall record and a 13-4 mark in Big Ten Conference play. She has Iowa over the 20-win mark for the 12th time in her 19 years as head coach as well, including 10 of the last 12 years.

Iowa is ranked in the top-12 nationally in five statistical categories. The Hawkeyes lead the country in field goal percentage (51.9), while they are second in total assists (613), third in assists per game (21.9) and fourth in assist/turnover ratio (1.63).
